Creating a pathway for exploration at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area

Earlier in the year, Parks California lauched the Candlestick Point SRA Mini Grants program. A grant program that was accessible to non-profits, K-12 and religious organizations to host activities for thier organizations at Candlestick Point SRA.

One of the grantees was the San Francisco Bike Coalition. Alex Frank, Bike It Forward Program Manager, worked with other non-profits in the Bayview to bring students from Bret Harte Elementary School to Candlestick Point SRA for some bike riding along the waterfront.

Students learned basic bike maintenance skills, how to navigate city streets while biding a bike, how to ride on trails, and took an Interpretive tour with park staff to learn about wildlife and the bay shorline.

Students also had time to participate in a drumming circle and work on homework. At the end of the six-week program, students recived a bike to take home.

Thank you Alex and team!
