About the event
California State Parks and Parks California will host a free community celebration at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (SRA) for the third year in a row, called Growing Together Day. This day celebrates this unique 252-acre urban oasis and vital state park.
The free event will feature family-friendly activities for kids and adults, guided walks, fishing opportunities, kite decorating, free local food, and interactive and educational stations from community organizations, such as Tree Frog Treks, Literacy for Environmental Justice, California State Parks Foundation, the Book Mobile from the San Francisco Public Library, SF Environment, Randall Museum, Tzu Chi Foundation, Nature in the City, and Crosstown Trail.
People of all ages are invited to participate in a live art installation and community-centered mural creation led by local Bayview resident and muralist Joe Colmenares. Colmenares will paint a Monarch Butterfly mural on a wind panel located at Wind Harp Hill Picnic Area and invite members of the community to paint it with him.
